Departed Port Talbot with a cargo of 1876 tons of anthracite for Cardiff on July 31-1940,after leaving the River Afan she struck a magnetic mine. 5 were killed, 13 seriously injured, only 3 escaped unharmed.The 5 who died had all been in the engine room,reports say she burnt fiercely and sank within 3 minutes. Mumbles LB crew were called to muster but cancelled when they heard an RAF rescue launch had picked up 17 survivors of the crew of 20. One of the crew who died Albin Andersen is buried at Port Talbot St Mary`s Cemetery. If you look to sea on Aberavon Beach you will see the Buoy marking the wreck site just off shore,a few years ago a local vessel struck the wreck at the time unmarked and almost sank before getting to the safety of the river.
