Port Talbot Coastguard Team were called at 17:17 to search for a person reported to have been seen entering the sea off Sker point Porthcawl. Porthcawl Coastguard team had been called to a separate incident of red flares being fired, so the Port Talbot team were drafted in to carry out a search from Sker Rocks to the River Kenfig.

The search was carried out in difficult circumstances due to force 8 winds, which were causing storm surges with the waves going from 100 yards out one minute then rolling up to the high water mark the next.
After a intensive search of the area and with nothing found the search was called off at 21:21

Red Flare
Coastguard`s were called to under take a search of Swansea Bay,following reports of a Red Flare seen in this area. Coastguard Teams from Mumbles and Port Talbot along with Mumbles Lifeboats and Helicopter 169 from RAF Chivnor North Devon carried out an intensive search of the area. However with nothing found the search was called off at 21:00.

Para Surfer

Port Talbot Coastguard were called at 11:20 yesterday following reports of a Para Surfer in difficulty 200 yards off shore on Aberavon Beach.
When the team arrived they were met by a number of very concerned members of the public. The Lifeboat was immediately called however the casualty had made it to the surf line by this time, as the team along with crew men from the RNLI ran down with lines and donned lifejacket's, the casualty then came ashore he stated he was not in distress and was apologetic over the teams being called.
Port Talbot Coastguard would like to thank the members of the public who had rang in this incident but many had left the scene. They would like to reassure them they did the Right thing,the Station Officer Steve Summerfield said "if a person feels that at the time of making a call to the coastguard they truly believe a person is in trouble the right decision was made. and members of Port Talbot Coastguard and Lifeboat Crew are only happy to help, we are not there to judge only to help and if more people were as thoughtful the sea would be a safer place"

Team Paged at 11:54 utc to a small vessel broken down and firing red flares off Aberavon beach.Port Talbot Lifeboat took the 16ft Shetland Cruiser with 2 persons on board under tow for the river Afan to be met by Port Talbot Coastguards

Port Talbot Coastguard was called at 09:33 following a report from a member of the public that there was a upturned boat in the river Neath.Police also in attendance the informant had left the scene however after a short search the target was located it was a large section of partly summered piping and did resemble a over turned dingy

Called just after 21:00 after a 999 call received by Mrcc Swansea reporting a male had entered the sea. Port Talbot Coastguard team illuminated the area with flood lighting and pyrotechnics,while police units tried to locate the informant,Port Talbot Lifeboat was put on stand by and police helicopter wo99 did a sweep of the sea front.
With no sign of the informant or anyone in distress the teams returned to station at 22:50 call considered to be a hoax

At 10:46 Port Talbot Coastguard were called to a report of a naked male on the river bank of the neath estuary,after a thorough search of the area nothing was found.

However the team was re-paged at 13:05 as the Lifeguard`s reported they had located the male on Aberavon Beach it appears it he had been in the river neath but had returned home before going back into the sea. The Causality was taken to morriston hospital by ambulance for a check over.

While this search was being under taken the coastguard mobile sighted a black inflatable toy blowing out to sea,the owner was located and when it was established that no one was with the inflatable.it was later recovered by the Lifeguard boat.

Recalled from exercise at 20:39 to a report of a canoeist in difficulty off Aberavon Beach. Weather on scene was South West force 8.
Mumbles offshore lifeboat launched, Police Helicopter WO99 (on scene in minutes) Rescue 169 on route.
Port Talbot Coastguard Team searching with lifejackets and lines. Nothing found but there was a lot of trees and planking washing about in the tide, feather questioning of the first informant under taking and it appears that what they may of seen was in fact a tree which off shore would of looked like a canoe. The informant was thanked as she was not to know this from her vantage point and all teams stood down at 21:30

Missing Person
Called by Police to search for a depressed missing male. Port Talbot ILB put on stand by information later received the casualty had gone into the sea but had come out and returned home. All units stood down at 02:17

Hoax
Called after a person reported in a distressed state said he had seen a person drowning 500 yards off Aberavon Beach. Search teams,Lifeboat and Rescue 170 deployed and informant taken to a ambulance due to his condition. All teams recalled after it was discovered to be a hoax call

Called while out on local patrol after information received via the Police that a 7 year old boy was missing. Child later found safe and well at a friends house

Called at to back up Mumbles Coastguard to search for a missing woman. Cas later found safe and well
17th April Called at 09.39 to a 54 year old male who was reported laying on rocks on Aberavon beach.It being high water at the time, the ILB launched but was unable to get in close so Port Talbot Coastguard team assisted by Port Talbot life guards recovered the cas and stretched to a waiting ambulance. He was suffering from hypthermia but it is unclear what had gone wrong the cas had been board Surfing at the time.

Called to a Motorbike rider who had fallen off his bike on sand dunes on the west end of Aberavon Beach.Due to the Cas a 34 year old male having back injures it was decided to evacuate via helicopter.R.A.F.Rescue Helicopter 169 was called and the Cas was taken to Bridgend Hospital.
30th March Called following a report from a mop that he had heard screams from a small boat in very heavy fog off Aberavon.following investigations and interviews with anglers etc it seamed that the cries where from children playing close by though the vessel had landed children back on shore before heading back to sea.The first informant had called to the vessel who stated that all was fine.With no resin to believe the vessel was in any danger teams where stood down.
30th March Called at 07.49 to a broken down 18 ft vessel off Mofa beach.The ILB took her in tow to the safety of the slip at the river Afan.
27th March
Hoax
Called following a report that a person was in the river Neath.There was not enough water to get the Lifeboat up river but the crew assisted with the search along with the Fire service and Police units along with WO99.
It soon became clear this was a hoax call
25th March Tasked along with Lifeboat to assist in recovering the body of a male from the river neath.As always in jobs of this nature our thoughts are with the family of the deceased.
15th March Called following a report from the Fire Service,that a person had fallen in to the river Afan by Tesco`s.Stood down alone with the lifeboat after information the person was out of the water and safe.

A48 ROAD
Paged at 07:00 to a 46 year old Male Threatening to jump off Briton Ferry Bridge.Port Talbot Lifeboat Launched to stand off river Neath.
Due to the Excellent work by the Police the Distressed male who at one stage was over the edge of the bridge in very windy conditions was talked down and all units returned to station.
As is normal in these incidents all traffic over the bridge was stopped.
Also a thank you to Mac Donald's for the Coffee.

People In Sea
Called by Police at 18:47 to person in the water off Aberavon Beach. The Team was called back shortly after leaving the station after receiving information from the police that the CAS had got ashore.
A adult and 3 children where walking on Aberavon Beach Pier, trying out new Wellington boots when at least one of the children was washed in to the sea by a wave.
It is unclear if any of the others were also washed in. but the child who we know to have been swept in to the sea was the stepson of the Adult who then jumped in to the rough seas and saved the boy.
They where taken to Morriston Hospital suffering from shock and Hypothermia

Trapped Dogs
Called at 17.16 to a report that two small Dogs had become stuck in the rocks on Aberavon Seafront.On arrival the Dogs where safe and well after getting free by them self`s.They were to quick for us and where last seen running at about 50 MPH up the road happily barking at each other.Followed by Adam trying to make a lead out of some Rope with no chance of ever catching them
