SS Ethelwalda

The Steam Ship Ethelwalda was carrying hit the North Breakwater on the 30th of October 1911 when trying to enter Port Talbot Docks. She was carrying a cargo of pit props which had to be thrown over board in a attempt to lighten her. This was failed to work

There is very little I can find out about her other than there was not very bad on the day she ran aground .Some of her could still be seen at low tide when I was a child in the 60s I was sent some information on her but sadly it was lost along with the senders e-mail address when my hard drive went down along with the back up.

There was a tragic event when some children playing on the wreck got trapped with one of them sadly not making it out alive despite the attempts to save the child
